Testimonials
"Jo Huey, in my opinion, is one of the most well-versed
speakers on the subject of Alzheimer's and related dementias. I have
attended her talks many times and have always come away with more
knowledge of these diseases and their effects on not only the victims
themselves but even more so on the families that are affected."

"The human touch is oftentimes what is missing from an
informative seminar or workshop. Especially those aimed at educating
caregivers and family members. One area that Jo Huey excels at is humanizing
the role of both patient and caregiver in her talks and her book.
"Well-educated. trained and experienced, this caregiver of 25 years can
speak to an audience of degreed specialists with the same confidence, level
of compassion and conviction as she shares with those family members just
trying to make since of it all and find 5 minutes of peace to themselves.
She knows her subject matter better than most and when asked questions about
management of the disease, the behaviors she is able to give clear, well
understood and practical suggestions.
"Jo's book 'Help and Hope' has taken the task of managing an Alzheimer's
patient and put it into meaningful and applicable steps. Myself and several
of my employees have shared this book with caregivers, family members and
physicians looking for some basic support, 'light at the end of the tunnel.'
Jo's book and her workshops allow 'no blame' on anyone. Alzheimer's disease
is everyone's fight to fight and 'Help and Hope' leads the way.
"I recommend the book for anyone looking for easy to understand and
applicable suggestions in managing Alzheimer's. I would strongly recommend
Jo as a speaker for caregivers, paraprofessionals, family, case workers, and
physicians looking to find 'help and hope' in managing AD.
"Feedback from talks Jo has done has been exceptional on every level. Some
words use to describer are 'grounded', real world, 'she understands exactly
where I am living every day and offered me help and hope.'"

"I met Jo Huey shortly after my husband was diagnosed with
Alzheimer’s. She is one of those truly amazing people that has a complete
understanding of Alzheimer’s and is willing to share her knowledge with
others in a caring fashion.
"I attended every seminar that her name was listed on the program. At each
one, I learned something new that I was able to take home and apply to my
husbands care. she gave me tools to approach the difficult task of dealing
with a confused and failing mind. I can't imagine how I would have made it
through these last 8 years without her guidance and support.
"Her list of 'do's' and 'don'ts' are a must for anyone dealing with
Alzheimer's. by applying them to any situation, a caregiver is able to make
things better for the patient as well as the caregiver. This creates an
environment that is devoid of fear, anger and depression. Ultimately,
everyone benefits from an atmosphere that is not so charged with negative
emotions.
"Jo Huey is a special person and I feel proud and privileged to call her my
friend."

"Mrs. Huey, I did receive the books and have distributed
them to all of the family and caregivers.
"I can tell the ones who have read it and those who have
not quite gotten to it. Our Catholic priest introduced your book to us at
our family meeting with him. His advise to us was for us all to be on the
same page in the care of our mother and he offered your book to help us. We
so excited to get our hands on a A.D. resource that is quick, easy reading.
Those of us who have read it are thankful to you for such a concise
resource. We are trying to get into a habit of the right side of the list of
absolutes. Everyday is a new day in the care of our Mom and Alzheimer's
Disease Help and Hope has provided just that to our family. Thanks again and
I have passed your name onto our local A.A. chapter. They seemed interested.
I'll keep pushing for a workshop."

"Jo Huey's book is a must read for everyone who directly
or indirectly cares for a person with Alzheimer's Disease or related
disorders. She captures the essence of the disease and gives down to earth
instructions for managing behaviors. After reading her book and hearing her
speak, I had to invited her to be the feature speaker for our annual
professional Alzheimer's Disease training program."

PS: I have been a social worker practicing in the field of Alzheimer's and
related Diseases for 9 years and cared for my mother-in-law who had
Alzheimer's Disease.

In the eight years since I met Jo we have shared the
speakers' podium for more educational seminars and inservcies than I can
count! Initially I was amazed at how similarly we approached the tricky
situations that are so common in Alzheimer's care. Now, I have come to
expect the easy flow that always happens when we discuss care issues. I
explain the neuroscience behind the problem and Jo provides the behavioral
work-around. Her book, which is an easy read formulation of behavioral
solutions for Alzheimer's problems, is founded on a positively focused
philosophy that we share -- first, that successfully caring for an
Alzheimer's individual is not as impossible as some would think, and second,
that focusing on shared quality of life for both the Alzheimer's individual
and the caregiver is the key.
